SKIN & LASER

Laser skin treatment is a new cosmetic surgery technique to treat skin problems, in which a surgeon uses a carbon dioxide laser to vaporize the upper layers of skin, removing them so that new skin reforms. The laser is a very precise beam of energy and can be directed onto any part of the skin, including damaged areas. It is often used on wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth. It can be used to make mild scarring or burns less noticeable, and to remove tattoos. Pulses of laser light can be used to treat port wine stains, acne scars, and spider veins. This form of laser skin treatment is called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.

HEART SPECIALIST

Rheumatic heart disease is caused by one or more attacks of rheumatic fever, which then do damage to the heart, particularly the heart valves. Rheumatic fever usually occurs in childhood, and may follow a streptococcal infection. In some cases, the infection affects the heart and may result in scarring the valves, weakening the heart muscle, or damaging the sac enclosing the heart. The valves are sometimes scarred so they do not open and close normally.

High blood pressure of unknown origin (primary hypertension) or caused by (secondary hypertension) certain specific diseases or infections, such as tumor in the adrenal glands, damage to or disease of the kidneys or their blood vessels. High blood pressure may overburden the heart and blood vessels and cause disease. Ischemic heart disease Heart ailments caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries and therefore a decreased blood supply to the heart. Cerebrovascular disease Disease pertaining to the blood vessels in the brain. A cerebrovascular accident or stroke is the result of an impeded blood supply to some part of the brain. Inflammatory heart disease Inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis), the membrane sac (pericarditis) which surround the heart, the inner lining of the heart (endocarditis) or the myocardium (heart muscle). Inflammation may be caused by known toxic or infectious agents or by an unknown origin.

ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool and is often the first modality used to image the patient. Ultrasound scan is currently considered to be a safe, non-invasive, accurate and cost-effective investigation in the fetus. It has progressively become an indispensible obstetric tool and plays an important role in the care of every pregnant woman.
The main use of ultrasonography are in the following areas:
1. Diagnosis and confirmation of early pregnancy.
The gestational sac can be visualized as early as four and a half weeks of gestation and the yolk sac at about five weeks. The embryo can be observed and measured by about five and a half weeks. Ultrasound can also very importantly confirm the site of the pregnancy is within the cavity of the uterus.
2. Vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy.
The viability of the fetus can be documented in the presence of vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy. A visible heartbeat could be seen and detectable by pulsed doppler ultrasound by about 6 weeks and is usually clearly depictable by 7 weeks. If this is observed, the probability of a continued pregnancy is better than 95 percent. Missed abortions and blighted ovum will usually give typical pictures of a deformed gestational sac and absence of fetal poles or heart beat. --%>
